From the Shop Floor to IT Innovation

I didn’t just “get into IT.” I grew up in Wisconsin manufacturing.

My grandfather ran a tool and die shop. My father still owns and runs a production manufacturing business. In that shop I started working at 8 years old; sweeping floors, then running CNCs as a I got older.

I started down the path of mechanical engineering technologist, and found my strength was in IT. Still, manufacturing has always been in my blood, and I’ve carried that with me into how I approach technology for the shop floor.

Why I Started Tech-Tastic

When I worked for other IT providers, I saw the same frustrating pattern over and over again:

• MSPs focused only on office PCs and ERP systems.
• They’d occasionally run a cable or set up Wi-Fi on the shop floor.
• But they never understood the production side — CNCs, PLCs, industrial networks, downtime risk.

To me, that was unacceptable. I knew firsthand how fragile production can be, and how much a single machine going offline can cost.

At one client, I discovered a critical CNC with no backup. If it failed, it would have cost over $150,000 and three weeks of downtime while waiting for a vendor overseas. That’s when I realized: IT done right could protect production, not just the office.
